Qingyan Ancient Town, one of the most famous historical and cultural towns in Guizhou Province, lies in the southern suburb of Guiyang. As an ancient town, covering an area of 741 acres, Qingyan Town was originally built in 1378. Nowadays, because of its long history and strong cultural atmosphere, the town has become an attractive destination for numerous domestic and foreign tourists.
Dating back to the beginning of the Ming Dynasty (1368--1644), Qingyan town was built for military reasons. Because of its geographical location, Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of Ming Dynasty established it as a station for transferring military messages and to house a standing army. Through years of modification and repeated restoration, Qingyan Ancient Town has gradually become a distinctive ancient town with cultural features of Ming and Qing Dynasties (1644 - 1911).
Huaxi Village has an area of 957.6 square km and a population of 328,700. Huaxi meanders through the town and is featured by genuine hills and waters, pastoral beauty and national minority custom. The North Campus and South Campus of Guizhou University and Guizhou University for Nationalities are located in town. The educational facilities and natural beauty make it a renowned educational and cultural center as well as an important tourist destination of Guizhou and southwest China.
Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area is located at Zhenning Buyi Miao Autonomous County of Anshun, 45 kilometers away from the downtown, 128 kilometers from Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou province. It is Guizhou’s No.1 tourist attraction.
Its highlight is one of the largest waterfalls of Asia: Huangguoshu Waterfall reaching a width of 81 meters and plunging 68 meters down into Xiniu Pool (Rhinoceros Pool) which is an 11 meters deep (36 feet) Rhinoceros shaped pool, sending foams up by 100 meters. And roars can be heard kilometers away. It together with other 18 waterfall forms a spectacular waterfall group which is apprised as the largest waterfall group in the world by Guinness World Records. Besides, there are four subterranean rivers and 100 caves and massive Karst complex covering some 450 square kilometers.
The sight of Huangguoshu Waterfall changes according to different seasons for the volume of the water varies during rainy season (May to October) and dry season (November to April). Comparing with other famous waterfalls around the world, Huangguoshu Waterfall is one of few waterfalls that can be viewed from above, below, front, back, left and right in the world. There is a Water-Curtain Cave named "Water Curtain Cave" in Chinese located at the halfway up the cliff back of the waterfall. It is a 134 m (440 ft) long naturally formed cave which allows visitors to not only view, but also hear and touch the waterfall.
Xijiang Miao Village
Xijiang, Miao transliteration, meaning a place where the Miao Xi family was inhabited, is situated in 37 kilometers northeast of the county town. There are 12 natural villages, 1,200 families and 6,000 people, becoming the biggest Miao village in China, famous as the "one-thousand-Household Miao village" and a historical cultural ancient town.
The village is located by the valley and surrounded by overlapping mountains, with terraced fields rising along the slopes to the clouds and the Baishui (White Water) River flowing through and cutting the village into two. Miao hillside pile-dwellings stand tier upon tier along the two banks to the mountain. Thick bamboo groves are dotting before and behind the houses. Beautiful maple leaves cover the villages on the top and at the bottom of the mountain.
